James Daniel Bolla Jr. (born on the 27th of March 1952) is an American basketball coach who was until recently the head coach of women’s basketball at the school of Hawaii.

Bolla began her career at UNLV at the age of 1981, as an assistant coach. She later becoming the director of the team from 1982 until 1996. Over the span of 14 years, Bolla had a 300-120 (.714) record, which included seven NCAA tournament appearances, and 11 seasons that had at least 20 wins. In the 1989-90 campaign, UNLV was ranked second in the country, which is the most prestigious ranking ever recorded by a school. This team had 28-3 records, the highest mark in the history of the school. He has been three times Big West coach of the year winner because of his involvement at UNLV. He coached six all-Americans. three Big West player of the year winners, as well as 24 all- conference picks. UNLV has won 7 Big West titles under his direction.

From 2004 to 2009, Bolla was head coach at Hawaii before being fired for cause on April 6, 2009. The firing followed accusations of verbal and physical abuse from players.

In 2015, Bolla began co-hosting a daily sports talk show on KDWN radio in Las Vegas, Coaches’ Corner. “Coaches Corner” moved to The Highway Stations in 2018.

In the season 1980-81, Bolla was a photographer for the Eastern Eight (now Atlantic 10) Conference.

Bolla was born in Pittsburgh, Bolla graduated from Bishop Canevin High School in 1970. Bolla was a basketball player in the University of Pittsburgh from 1971 to 1975 . He was the center of the team from 1973 until 1975. The team of 1974 was ranked 10th in the country, and boasted a school record win streak of 22 games. The Panthers were able to make it into the Elite Eight of the 1974 NCAA Tournament. Bolla graduated in the month of August with an academic degree in physical education.

From 1975 until 1977 Bolla worked as a coach assistant on a voluntary basis in the sport of Pittsburgh Basketball for men. Bolla was promoted to assistant coach in 1977, then an assistant full-time in the year 1978. In 1979-80, Bolla made the move towards his current position with the Pittsburgh women’s basketball team to become an assistant coach.

From 1996 to 2001, Bolla was director of athletic development at UNLV. In that position, he was in charge of fundraising for the athletic department. Bolla secured a $3.1 million gift for the softball and golf programs among nearly $5 million he helped raise. Bolla went into private business after UNLV declined to renew his contract.
