James Anton Blyth (born 2 February 1955) is an Scottish goalkeeper in football and a coach. Blyth played with Preston North End, Coventry City, Hereford United, Birmingham City and Nuneaton Borough. Blyth also played for Scotland two times and picked for the 1978 FIFA World Cup squad. He has worked with Coventry City, Celtic and Middlesbrough as a goalkeeping coach.
Blyth served as the coach for goalkeeping at Celtic and joined the club in July of 2005, and was named to the position by Gordon Strachan. When Blyth was part of ‘the Bhoys The club was awarded the three SPL titles, as well as the Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup twice, and also qualified for two consecutive seasons to knockout phase in the UEFA Champions League in 2006/07 and 2007/08. The run also saw them take AC Milan into extra time in the San Siro before losing to 0-1 the eventual champions. He along with Garry Pendrey left Celtic after the resignation of Gordon Strachan in May 2009. They reunited at Middlesbrough in May of 2010.
Blyth served as a goalkeeping instructor during the tenure of Gordon Strachan when he was the manager of Coventry City, but departed after Strachan and his assistant Garry Pendrey were dismissed from their positions in 2001. In his time at Coventry he was instrumental in an acquisition of 16 year old Chris Kirkland, who went to play in the in the first team of The Sky Blues before smashing the British transfer fee for goalkeepers (PS6 millions) when he was bought from Liverpool at the end of August in 2001. Blyth has played with a variety of International goalkeepers such as Artur Boruc David Marshall, Magnus Hedman and Chris Kirkland.

He also played for at Preston North End (1970-1972), Hereford United (1975, on loan) as well as Birmingham City, when he was transferred to the club from Coventry City in 1982. A team comprising Mick Ferguson, Ian Wallace, Terry Yorath, Graham Oakey, Bobby McDonald and Tommy Hutchison played a brand of aggressive football that was able to sweep several teams out of the way, often by huge margins of winning. Some of the best matches of the season came around Christmas time when Norwich City visited Highfield Road. The game was at its peak during the closing minutes, when Blyth prevented John Ryan’s penalty to lead Coventry to win 5-4. In the same year, he was awarded Man of the Match in the game at home against Liverpool after putting into a superb performance to win 1-0 with a number of saves, especially against David Fairclough and a penalty from Phil Neal.
