Allenby is a left-handed batsman as well as a right-handed medium-pace bowler.
On the 15th of June, in 2008 Allenby was the only player from Twenty20 Cup history to achieve four wickets in four balls consecutively, when Allenby took out Lancashire Lightning players Kyle Hogg, Steven Croft, Dominic Cork and Sajid Mahmood. Unfortunately for Allenby who was a runner, he was caught to a duck in the Leicestershire innings, and his team lost the game at 37-runs.
On 4 June 2010, Allenby scored 58 runs for the Dragons in their Friends Provident opening match against Gloucestershire.
At the end of the 2012 season which saw him score 733 County Championship runs and take 42 wickets, he was named Glamorgan’s player of the year. He described the season as ‘disappointing’ and felt the county fell ‘well short’ of the standards required to be a successful county side.
The English off-season, which began at the beginning of the calendar year 2007, he played in one Twenty20 match in the team of Western Australia, having previously played for the team’s Under-19 squad between 2000 and 2002.

After playing second XI cricket with Leicestershire Allenby broke into the first team in the year 2005. Allenby played three times during the Twenty20 Cup and played one one-day match towards the conclusion in the year. In the course of the season, he played cricket for the club of Brandon Cricket Club in the North East and scored a record of 266 in a 45-over match with Langley Park.
In 2006, Allenby played regularly player in the Leicestershire team that took home the Twenty20 Cup, scoring 64 and taking two wickets in the final game against Nottinghamshire. The same year, he made his debut as a first-class player in the tour match against West Indies A and made his County Championship debut in the final match that season, against Essex. In the second game, the game, he scored his first one-class century. He followed that by scoring a 68-run score in the second over as Leicestershire was able to chase the score to 301.
It was announced on 10 August 2009 that Allenby would be signing for Glamorgan County Cricket Club for the 2010 season.
