Jason Richard de Vos (surname also spelled ‘De Vos (born 2nd January 1974) is director of development at the Canadian Soccer Association and a former professional athlete who played his last game as a central defender with English club Ipswich Town. He played in international football for Canada. In 2012, as part The Canadian Soccer Association’s 100th anniversary celebrations, he was included in the history-making Canada XI men’s team.
In the final game of the 2007-08 season , the 1-0 victory over Hull City, De Vos announced his decision to quit playing for the role of a journalist in his home country of Canada and was greeted with an honour guard and a standing ovation as the parade of the teams around the field.
Fall of 2010 he accepted the position of Technical Director at Oakville Soccer Club.
De Vos provided commentary on the FIFA 2010 World Cup for CBC and on Toronto FC matches for CBC and GolTV Canada.
A well-known player to fly, De Vos spent the following five seasons with the Montreal Impact of the then American Professional Soccer League, the final two of them in loan with English third Division team Darlington. In 1998, De Vos first signed a contract with Darlington before making the move into Dundee United of the Scottish Premier League in October of the basis of a PS400,000 transfer. He played for three seasons with The Terrors, captaining the team from 2000-01. The club then signed him to Wigan Athletic of the then English Second Division for PS500,000 in 2001. De Vos captained the side through its rise into the First Division in 2002-03 and was selected in the PFA Division Two Team of the Year. After a difficult 2003-04 season that resulted in Wigan only missing out on an FA Premier League play-off place, De Vos left on the Bosman transfer to join Ipswich Town FC. Since his arrival at Ipswich De Vos has held an unofficial position in the middle of the defence, frequently suffering from injuries. He also acted as captain of the team during Jimmy Magilton’s absence. In June of 2006, Jim Magilton was appointed manager of Ipswich Town and made de Vos captain. He left the international soccer and club soccer in 2008.

Jason de Vos began his professional career in the year 1990. He was an high school student of 15 years old with his the club he played for in his hometown, that was the London Lasers of the former Canadian Soccer League (CSL). When the club dissolved, He joined his fellow club, the Kitchener Kickers, also of the CSL. The latter club, too, was disbanded, he joined the newly-established Lasers on the 22nd of November, 1992. which was the closing year in the CSL.
De Vos represented Canada at the 1991 Pan American Games. He played in 49 full internationals and scored four goals. The first time he played was on 19 August 1997, with a 1-0 defeat at home in a friendly match against Iran. He was a part of Canada for eleven FIFA World Cup qualification matches and was a part of 2001’s Confederations Cup. He was captain of the Canadian team from 1999 until the time of his retirement to international competition in 2004. De Vos was named a all-star player for the 2002 and 2000 CONCACAF Gold Cup tournaments, during which Canada was ranked in the top two spots and third. He scored the winner at the end in the 2000 Gold Cup, a match that Canada won 2-0 against Colombia.
De Vos was the colour Commentator for CBC Sports’s coverage of Football at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China.
