Lawson started running and track from a very young age however, he was not an extremely talented athlete for his age group; Lawson made his mark in his sophomore and freshman seasons during his time at Liberty-Eylau High School in Texarkana, Texas. Along with track, Lawson was a part of Liberty-Eylau’s basketball and football teams. On June 12, 2012 a few days after graduation from Liberty-Eylau Lawson was crowned the winner of the long jump as well as the triple jump during the National Junior Championships. He was chosen for his country of the United States in both events at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Barcelona.
