Rosy Press was founded by Asselin in the hope of bringing back romance comics. A successful Kickstarter campaign funded the company and its flagship series, Fresh Romance. Asselin recruited many of her colleagues, including Arielle Jovellanos and Sarah Winifred Searle, to help with the series. In May 2015, Fresh Romance’s first volume was made available as digital content. It was then followed by a printed release from Oni Press in 2016. Before she announced in 2016 that Rosy Press was closing down, the Fresh Romance anthology series received nominations to the Dwayne McDuffie diversity award and a Harvey Award as Best Anthology.
Asselin published an editorial piece in 2014 on comic book and pop-culture website CBR. It criticised the cover art of DC’s The New 52 Teen Titans issue 1 and highlighted Wonder Girl’s artwork. Asselin criticised the artwork for depicting a teenage girl’s body in an unrealistic way and Wonder Girl’s proportions were disproportionally drawn. Asselin was threatened with rape, other bodily harm, and derogatory sexual remarks. These threats and the content Jonah Weiland, the founder of the site, described as “a negativity, nastiness, that has existed on CBR forums for too many years”, led to the closure of the forums. He hoped that the new forum would be inclusive, diverse, accepting, compassionate and welcoming.
