She is a former Canadian competition swimmer. Kerr was an Olympic bronze medallist as a freestyle and butterfly specialist.
Kerr was awarded an athletic scholarship by the University of Florida to attend Gainesville, Florida. She competed for the Florida Gators swimming team in National Collegiate Athletic Association competitions under Coach Randy Reese, and coach Mitch Ivey, from 1989 to 1992. She was the recipient of four Southeastern Conference (SEC), individual titles in the 200-metres freestyle (1989), 200 metres individual Medley (1991, 1992), 400 metre individual medley (1992), as well as seven SEC championship relay teams. Kerr, along with Laura Walker and Paige Zemina, was also part of the 1989 NCAA national championship relay team for the 4x100ms freestyle. During her four-year American college swimming career, she was awarded 23 All-American honors. She was the Gators team captain as a senior in 1991-92.
She graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in finance in 1992.
Kerr and Sandy Goss were inducted into the Swimming Canada Circle of Excellence Hall of Fame in 2006. She is married, and she and her husband have a daughter born in 2005, and a son born in 2008. Since 2006, she is a partner in the Toronto office of Accenture.
She won gold medals at the 1986 Commonwealth Games, Edinburgh, Scotland. Silver medals were also awarded in the 200-metre freestyle, 4×100-metre Medley relay, as well as bronze medals for the 200-metre individual and 4×200 metre freestyle relay.
