Jan Nilsson Biography

Jan Nilsson is one of the most popular and richest Racing Driver who was born on December 15, 1960 in Karlstad, Sweden. Jan “Flash”, a Swedish ex-racer car driver, was born 15 December 1960. Most famous is his participation in the Swedish Touring Car Championship. He drove full season for 15 seasons and was the third most successful driver with two championship wins and 35 race wins.

Jan Nilsson participated in the Scandinavian Porsche Carrera Cup in 2005. This was in support of STCC and his STCC program in a BMW. Nilsson raced in four races every weekend: two in his BMW and two in his Porsche. Both cars were rear-wheel drive, which was a blessing for Nilsson. Nilsson was third in the Carrera Cup, with more success. He remained focused on STCC in 2006, and was replaced by Fredrik Ros, the reigning champion of Carrera Cup.

Flash Engineering signed on several new sponsors, the Swedish mailservice “Posten” among others, for 2006 and dramatically increased their available funds. They also signed on double Swedish champion Richard Göransson and former Flash Engineering Volvo driver Edward Sandström. Göransson and Nilsson drove new BMW 320si E90 cars for the 2006 season, while Sandström drove the older BMW 320i E46. Richard Göransson finished second in the championship while Nilsson was 9th again. Sandström was involved in a major accident early in the season in which the car was completely destroyed, and Sandström had to sit out the remaining races.

“Flash” finished 5th in the STCC 2007, 6th in 2008 and 2009, 9th in 2010 and 8th in 2011, his last full season in the championship.

Jan Nilsson, after a difficult 2004 season that saw Flash Engineering only one win in the entire season, decided to sell Flash Engineering. Polestar Racing was the new name of the team. Flash Engineering, a smaller, more focused team, was also started by Jan Nilsson for 2005. Jan Nilsson was the team’s driver, and the BMW 320i E46 was his BMW 320i E46. The team finished 9th in STCC 2005.

Jan Nilsson began his career in Formula Ford in 1983, before moving to Formula 3. In 1989, he was the Swedish F3 champion. He then drove Formula 3 in Japan, Mexico and moved to Clio Cup Scandinavia. After being champion in 1992, he finished second in 1992. He was promoted to Renault Spider Eurocup 1993. He finished fourth in the Spider Eurocup his first year, and fourth in 1995. He was third in 1996, the same year he was instrumental in the creation of the Swedish Touring Car Championship.

Jan Nilsson’s team, Flash Engineering became the official Volvo team. In 1996 and 1997, he won the title in a Volvo 850. He was second in 1998 in a Volvo S40. He was fifth in 1999 and sixth in 2000. He was criticized for his slow pace. However, he came second in the 2001, 2002, and 2003 seasons.

After a couple of struggling years in STCC, 2005 to 2007, Jan Nilsson was back winning races in 2008, 2009 and 2010. “Flash” had a hard fight with previous teammate Richard Göransson for the most overall victories in STCC. The both switched places several times between the 2008, 2009 and 2010 seasons, with Göransson finally taking the top spot with 34 versus 33 victories at the end of the 2010 season.
