He was a safety for the National Football League (NFL), for three seasons. He was a Boston College student who won consensus All-American recognitions. In 2008, he was undrafted-free and signed by the Colts.

Silva was injured in the preseason game for the 2010 season. He suffered a torn ACL and MCL as well as a crushed knee joint. This forced him to miss the remainder of the year. Silva was never allowed to return to the game by his doctors.

Silva and his wife Theresa reside in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They have 4 daughters and a son. Silva was an assistant coach on the Mt. Lebanon High School football team in the fall of 2016. The team won the conference championship. He is also a cousin of USA Women’s Hockey player Kacey Bellamy.

Jamie was an Indianapolis Colts member in 2009. He was a special team specialist and the second string-free safety. Silva had 32 tackles in his second season and deflected two passes. There were also 4 tackles in the post- season. Silva and the Colts reached Super Bowl XLIV where they were faced by the New Orleans Saints. The Colts lost 31-17.
