Callahan was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the second round (87th overall), of the 2012 MLB Draft. He chose to give up his commitment to South Carolina to take advantage of a $565,000.500 signing bonus. Callahan was immediately assigned to the Gulf Coast Red Sox, where he was 1-0 and had a 5.19 ERA over 8.2 innings. He pitched in 2013 for the Lowell Spinners, where he was 5-1 and had a 3.92 ERA over 13 games (12 starts), while in 2014 he was with the Greenville Drive. There he posted a 3-13 record with a 6.96 ERA over 25 starts. In 2015, he returned to Greenville and was 7-6 with a 4.53 ERA through 31 games (six starts). Callahan played 2016 for the Salem Red Sox, posting a 5-3 record with a 3.29 ERA in 36 relief appearances. He also started 2017 with the Portland Sea Dogs. In May, he was promoted to Pawtucket Red Sox.
Callahan was a graduate of Dillon High School. After posting a 7-1 record and a 0.89 earned-run average (ERA), and 111 strikeouts over 50 innings pitched, Callahan was named the Gatorade South Carolina Player of The Year and Region 8-2A player of the year. This helped him reach the regional championship. He was also an All-State selection in 2011, 2012, and 2013. Callahan has committed to playing college baseball for South Carolina Gamecocks.
Callahan was assigned to Las Vegas to begin the 2018 season. He was placed on the disabled list in April and he underwent shoulder surgery in June, thus ending his season. He elected free agency on November 3, 2018.
