born in Koforidua, Eastern Region, Ghana Sunday began his professional career with his local team Kumasi Asante Kotoko, of which he was captain. In 1970 the club and Sunday were awarded the African Cup of Champions, predecessor to the CAF Champions League, the first title to be won by the club. He was a midfielder and played for the majority of his time with the Ghanaian club Asante Kotoko and was also part of the Ghana national team. They participated for two Africa Nations Cup tournaments. He was awarded the award in 1971. received the African Footballer of the Year award.

As a coach, Sunday managed his former club Asante Kotoko, leading them to their second African Cup of Champions victory in 1983. He also managed Abuakwa Susubiribi and Ashanti Goldfieds of Ghana, FC 105 Libreville of Gabon and Ivorian club Africa Sports of Abidjan, whom he also led to the continental title in 1992.

In the time of the 70 Nations Cup, there was an rematch of the semifinal that was played two years earlier. Ghana once again beat Ivorians winning 2-1. Sunday scoring the first goal. But they fell in the final once more, this time to host Sudan.

Sunday was the first to be named as a member of his place on the Ghana nation’s team back in the year 1966 His first official international match took place in the year 1968 at the African Cup of Nations, in which he scored a goal in the match against Laurent Pokou’s Ivory Coast in the semifinal when Ghana beat them 4-3. They Black Stars lost the final to DR Congo.
