Gregson was introduced to politics by Svend Robinson. He worked on federal NDP campaigns in early 1990s. Gregson ran for MLA in 2001 in British Columbia as a Green Party candidate in Vancouver-Hastings. He received 14.9% of popular vote. Gregson ran again in 2005 in Vancouver-Hastings, receiving 9%. From 2004 to 2007, he was the Financial Agent of the Vancouver East Green Party. He also served as President of Vancouver Hastings Green Party Constituency. In 2008, he ran for the Vancouver municipal election for Work Less Party. He finished 23rd out of 32 candidates who received more than 10,000 votes. He ran for Degrowth Vancouver in 2011 and received 7,872 votes. He finished 28th out of 41 candidates.

In 1998 Gregson’s “Irresistible Force” was published through Polestar Press – essentially a history of disability sport in Canada. The book is now out of print.

Whilst competing for Canada, Gregson returned to post-secondary education at VCC Langara and then later he received his BA in Communications from Simon Fraser University. He was the first person in his family to receive a degree. He was also the first athlete with a disability in Canada to receive an athletic scholarship. In 2000 he returned to SFU to work for the Office of Research Services.

After completing the Terry Fox Run in Port Coquitlam, Gregson was first to be covered in national media. He began to compete in disability sports events shortly thereafter and became Canada’s number one amputee athlete in 1983. He represented Canada at the Paralympics in 1988 and 1988. In 1986, he was the first Canadian athlete with a disability to be awarded a post secondary athletic scholarship after he won fourth place in the World Championships in Sweden. Gregson was awarded the Chevron Canada Award in Post Secondary Sports in 1987. He retired in 1987 and became the Chair of BC Disability Games. He oversaw many successful events during this tenure. He published his first book, Irresistible force: A history of disability sport in Canada in 1998 via Raincoast Books, Vancouver.
