Iain Thomas Livingstone QPM, a former Chief Constable of Police Scotland, is a senior officer in the Scottish police force. He was the previous Chief Constable Designate. He was officially elected Chief Constable of the force on 27 August 2018, and was named on 15 August 2018.
Livingstone was appointed Deputy Chief Constabulary for Crime and Operations in 2013 when Lothian & Borders were merged into the new Police Scotland force. Livingstone was not selected for the Chief Constable position when Phil Gormley was appointed to succeed Stephen House in 2015. He initially remained in the force executive, but announced in summer 2017 that he would be retiring in the next few months. After several misconduct allegations were levelled against Chief Constable Gormley, he was asked to reconsider his decision. Livingstone assumed interim command of the force in September 2017. Livingstone was elected to replace Gormley when he resigned in February 2018, to contest the allegations. From 27 August 2018, the Chief Constable position has a four year term with an annual salary of PS216,000.
After being accused of sexual misconduct at Tulliallan Policing College in 2003, he was suspended and deported. However, he was cleared after an internal misconduct hearing. He was then reinstated to his former role as Superintendent (the youngest officer at that rank in Scotland) after an appeal.

Livingstone graduated in 1988 from the University of Aberdeen with a first- class Bachelor of Laws degree. Livingstone played association football for Montrose and Raith Rovers while he was a student at Aberdeen. Before he became a solicitor, he attended the University of Strathclyde.
Livingstone joined Lothian and Borders Police as a CID officer in 1992. He rose quickly through the ranks to become Assistant Chief Constable for crime and head of the force’s CID branch. Livingstone graduated from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York with a master’s. He was also a Fulbright scholar and served secondments with the Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland.
