His father was an Egyptian footballer during the 1970s. In the 1980s, he moved to Qatar to play for Al- Khor. He then became a coach in 1994. Yasser was also born in Qatar. He is registered as a Qatari by FIFA and not an Egyptian national. His brothers are also soccer players. Ahmed Yasser is his youngest brother and plays for the Qatar Under-20 football team. His younger brother Mohammed Yasser is a former player for the national team and plays currently for Umm Salal.
Manchester United sold Yasser in 2004 to AEL Limassol, a Cypriot club. After just one season, Yasser left the club citing family issues.
His wife, Angie, is a Belgian national. In 2005, she gave birth to their son Younis. He was set for an imminent return to the Egyptian Premier League in 2012, but his wife refused to return to Egypt due to the Egyptian Revolution of 2011, and he subsequently stayed in Belgium for an additional year.
In 2006–07, after departing Manchester City, he signed with his previous club, Al Rayyan, for one season.
Hussein played briefly with AEL Limassol, the Cypriot First Division club, in 2004-05. He then returned to Qatar and played for Al Sadd. He won the Qatar Stars League as well as the Heir Apparent Trophy.

Hussein Yasser El-Mohammadi Abdulrahman, (Arabic : HsynYsr lmHmdy; born 9th January 1984), is a Qatari footballer. He plays as a winger and midfielder for Egyptian side Wadi degla.
Yasser signed for Manchester United in 2002, his first professional club. Rene Meulensteen was the Qatari national team’s coach at the time and suggested Yasser to the club. In order to obtain a Belgian passport, and to be eligible for a British work permit as a EU national, he was quickly loaned to Royal Antwerp. The agreement was ended after two years. However, he did get a Belgian passport.
In August 2005, Manchester City manager Stuart Pearce signed him on the recommendation of former City player Ali Benarbia, who played with Yasser in Qatar. However, Yasser made only one first team appearance, in a League Cup match against Doncaster Rovers. He was released in January 2006. Afterwards, he stated that leaving City was “the biggest mistake of his life”.

Yasser signed a two-year contract for Lierse on 11 August 2011. He made his league debut 22 October in a match against Sint-Truiden after coming on as a substitute for Gonzague Vandooren. During his tenure with Lierse, he was Qatar’s highest paid athlete, earning $500,000 annually. Lierse decided not to renew his contract and he was released in the summer of 2013.

The main cause of his departure from Zamalek was delayed payments.
