Goodwin’s pro career saw him only catch 37 passes and score two touchdowns, but he was more known for his blocking skills. Goodwin was signed by the Miami Dolphins as a restricted-free agent in 1999 by Jimmy Johnson. Johnson paid Goodwin to improve their running game. In 2000, Merril Hoge called Goodwin “the best blocking tightener in the league” in an ESPN commentary. Goodwin, a tight end, was the 97th pick in the 1996 draft. For nine years, Goodwin was a tight end in NFL. He spent five of those years with Minnesota and three with Miami Dolphins. He signed with Atlanta in March 2004 but was forced to leave four months later after sustaining a hip injury. He was a Team Captain for the NFL’s 1999 and 2000 seasons. He was also an NFL Players Representative three years. Goodwin transferred from Texas A&M–Kingsville to Texas A&M in 1993. While in Kingsville, he was a Lone Star Conference award recipient as a tight end. He walked on to the Texas A&M football team and soon received a full scholarship. He played as an offensive tackle for the Aggies for two years where he was an All-Southwest Conference pick, second team All-American, and GTE Scholar Athlete. Throughout his college career, he received All-Conference honors at two different schools at two different positions. Goodwin graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in agricultural economics.
