It provides businesses with a means to update their business information (including addresses and phone numbers) to multiple channels such as listings, landing pages, social pages and social media pages from a single source: the Yext Knowledge Engine. Confide, an iOS application that allows professionals to communicate with one another in an untraceable manner, is also being launched by Lerman. It operates similarly to Snapchat but for business. All three of Lerman’s previous ventures were successful exits.

Yext’s initial technology model was focused on lead-generation. This service recorded phone conversations and charged clients based upon keywords. Lerman and his team discovered a common problem while working with clients to develop their online presence. Companies had difficulty keeping track of all their different online listings and were often only able to notice a problem when customers complained about their outdated business hours or addresses. Lerman realized that businesses could pay for all their online information to be updated, so he started a small company within Yext dedicated to updating business listings. The cloud software they developed was called “Powerlistings” and was immediately a hit.

Lerman currently serves as Yext’s CEO. Forbes magazine featured Yext as one of America’s Top 25 Most Promising Companies of 2014 and 2015. Yext has been recognized as one of America’s fastest-growing companies by the Inc. 5000 in 2015 and 2016, and as one of Fortune’s Best Places to Work in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Lerman decided to focus on this business listing model, and spun out the pay- per-call business as a separate company called Felix. He then sold Felix to IAC’s CityGrid Media for $30 million in April 2012. All proceeds from the sale were reinvested to fund Yext’s new Powerlistings product, now called Yext Listings. Yext’s Knowledge Engine now offers a suite of products, expanding the company’s services beyond simply business listings.
