Since 1957, the USA’s National team had not won a World Championship. The 1979 World Championships took place in Seoul, South Korea. Warlick was one twelve- man squad. The USA team lost against South Korea in the opening game. They then faced Italy, and were victorious 66-64. The USA then faced Canada in the final game. Canada had not lost. The USA had a 4-1 record and needed to win. They also needed to win by at least 13 points to take home the gold. The USA won by 16 points. Warlick averaged 1.0 points per game.

Warlick was chosen to represent the USA at the 1980 Olympics. However, the 1980 Olympic boycott prevented the team from going. The team went 6-1 in Olympic Qualifying, Warlick scoring 1.3 points per match and eleven assists, which was second on the team.

In 1981, Warlick enrolled in graduate school at Virginia Tech and became an assistant coach with the Virginia Tech Hokies women’s basketball team. Warlick graduated with a M.S. in athletic administration in 1983, with her thesis titled Public Relations Guide to Promote the College Female Athlete. Warlick then was an assistant coach at Nebraska from 1983 to 1985.

Warlick’s coaching debut was an 80–71 loss to the Chattanooga Lady Mocs in Chattanooga on November 9, 2012. In her first year as head coach, the team had a record of 27 wins and 8 losses. The WBCA recognized this performance by selecting her for the Maggie Dixon Award, which is awarded to the coach with the best performance in their rookie year as a head coach.

Warlick was selected to the US team at the 1979 William Jones Cup competition, Taipei (Taiwan). The USA team won six of the six games to win the gold medal.

She was the head coach of the Tennessee Lady Volunteers. Prior to the 2012-13 season, she replaced Pat Summitt as head coach and held that position until the end 2018-19. In 2001, Warlick was inducted into Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.

Warlick went to San Juan, Puerto Rico for the 1979 Pan American Games. The USA team won five of their first five games and advanced to the gold medal game. However, they faced Cuba in the final and lost 91 to 86 to win the silver medal. Warlick had seven assists for the team.

Born Frances Hollingsworth Warlick in Knoxville, Tennessee, Warlick played for Tennessee under Pat Summitt where she was a three-time All-American point guard and set several school records. She was also the first player in Tennessee sports history to have her jersey retired at the end of her playing career and was named to the 1980 US Olympic Basketball Team. Warlick played in the Women’s Professional Basketball League for the Nebraska Wranglers. She was named a WPBL All-Star in 1981 when the Wranglers captured a championship, and she was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2001.
