His orchestral works, concertos, and chamber music have been recorded and performed around the world. Willi wrote an opera, Schlafes Bruder for the Opernhaus Zurich.
Montafon was composed by him. It contains the works Eirene (a trumpet concerto);…geraume Zeit …,, a concerto for flute and orchestra; ego Eimi (a clarinet concerto); and Aon (a horn concerto). In March 2008, a revised version of Schlafes Bruder appeared at the Stadttheater Klagenfurt.
Willi’s works include an opera, orchestral work, chamber music and compositions for one person. In 1991, Willi was awarded a commission by the Salzburg Festival and Cleveland Orchestra for Konzert fur Orchester. Christoph von Dohnanyi conducted the premiere. The Opernhaus Zurich commissioned Schlafes Bruder in 1994/95 to celebrate Austria’s millennial. Robert Schneider wrote the libretto. It premiered in 1996. Willi composed Begegnung fur Orchester in 1997/98 for the 150th anniversary of the Wiener Philharmoniker.

Willi was born in Bludenz, Vorarlberg. He studied music pedagogy at the University of Innsbruck and theology at the Innsbruck conservatory. He studied composition at the Salzburg Mozarteum with Helmut Eder, and then with Boguslaw Scheffer. He lives in Sankt Anton im Montafon.
His works were recorded by the WERGO label, which published orchestral works such as Eirene and Raume after his opera Schlafes Bruder. The Japanese label Camerata Tokyo also released a CD of chamber music, which was available from 1984 to 2005.
