Henry Olonga is one of the most popular and richest Cricketer who was born on July 3, 1976 in Lusaka, Lusaka Province, Zambia. Henry Khaaba Olonga, a Zimbabwean ex-cricketer, was born 3 July 1976. He played for Zimbabwe in Test and One Day International (ODI). Olonga was a Zimbabwean cricketer who played first-class cricket for Matabeleland (Mashonaland) and Manicaland (ODI). Olonga was the first black cricketer to make his Test debut in January 1995. He also became the youngest player to represent Zimbabwe. From 1998 to 2003, he was a regular player in the Zimbabwe team.

When he was selected for Zimbabwe’s international debut against Pakistan in Harare, January 1995, Olonga was not an obvious choice. (Olonga could have been selected earlier in 1995 against Sri Lanka, when David Brain was out with injury. However, he was ruled ineligible because he still had Kenyan citizenship). Olonga, who had given up his Kenyan citizenship in order to become a Zimbabwean cricketer, was 18 years old and 212 days.

A warrant was issued in Zimbabwe for Olonga’s arrest on charges of treason. Death threats made him go temporarily into hiding and then into exile in England after Zimbabwe’s last match of the tournament, against Sri Lanka in East London. A knee injury forced his retirement from first-class cricket later in 2003, but he has played occasional matches since 2005 for the Lashings World XI. By 2010, he was calling for the restoration of international cricket between Zimbabwe and other countries.

Olonga and his teammate Andy Flower achieved international recognition by wearing a black armband in the match against Namibia at Harare Sports Club, to “mourn the death of democracy” in Zimbabwe under the government led by Robert Mugabe. Olonga and Flower released a statement on 10 February 2003, the second day of the tournament, stating in part:

In October 1995, he made his debut in ODIs against South Africa. He was the man of match in his first 5-wicket win (5-70) against India in October 1998. This was Zimbabwe’s second Test win. He was also the leader of the team that won Zimbabwe’s first overseas Test in Peshawar, defeating Pakistan in November 1998. Olonga scored a final 5-wicket Test 5 wicket haul (5-93) against Pakistan in November 2002.
