It examined and held hearings in more than 20 areas of inquiry including fraud and abuse within the financial sector, state and federal regulatory enforcement, tax treatment of financial products, lending practices and securitization, corporate governance, and executive compensation. In January 2011, the commission reported its findings. The Financial Crisis Inquiry Report was published and was critical acclaimed by the New York Times.
