McGregory was a member of the World Championship Team in the 50 meter and 100-meter backstroke at the 2009 USA National Championships. McGregory’s first international meet was at the 2009 World Aquatics Championships. She failed to reach the semifinals in the 50-meter backstroke. With a time of 27.83 seconds, she finished eleventh. This is 0.03 seconds behind her American record. However, she made it to the finals in the 100-meter backstroke. She ended up finishing sixth in the finals. The US women did not advance past prelims for the women’s 4×100 Medley relay, so her chances of winning a gold medal were over. McGregory competed in McGregory’s women’s 100m Backstroke (25m) at the 2009 Mutual of Omaha Duel In the Pool. Her time was 58.54. McGregory’s professional swimming career ended there.

McGregory made a slight comeback in 2008. McGregory proved to be a formidable threat to Natalie Coughlin and broke Coughlin’s 100 backstroke world record with a time in the Olympic Trials heats of 59.15. Coughlin, however, took back the world record in the next heat with a time 59.03. McGregory was the fastest qualifier for the finals in the semifinals that day and swam faster than Natalie. Margaret Hoelzer defeated her to second, and McGregory failed to make the team for the 100 meter backstroke as well as the 200 meters backstroke later in this meet.
