Harry Kenny is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on April 13, 1962 in Dublin, Ireland. Harry’s family is steeped in Rovers tradition. Hughie Gannon, his father-in-law, won the FAI Cup in 1955 with Rovers. Marc Kenny, his younger brother played for Rovers in the late 1990s.

On 3 December 1980, he scored his first goal for Hoops in a semi-final loss to UCD by Leinster Senior Cup. In 1987, he also scored his first goal from the penalty spot.

Harry didn’t get much of a look in in Jim McLaughlin’s first season in charge, 1983/84, he only made a total of five appearances but he admitted himself it was his own fault. He stalled in renewing his contract and although he had played quite well in a few pre-season friendlies he had kept McLaughlin waiting and that led to H losing his place to Anto Whelan.

Harry, or “H” as his friends called him, arrived in Milltown in September 1978 one year after Johnny Giles was appointed manager/player. Giles signed him up to be one of the full-time players in Milltown’s professional setup. Ritchie Bayly, Alan Campbell, Pierce O’Leary and Alan Campbell were also part of the scheme.
