Harald Aabrekk is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on February 22, 1956 in Nordfjordeid, Sogn og Fjordane, Norway. Harald Olav Aabrekk, born 22 February 1956, is a Norwegian football coach. He was also a former player. He was a former player for Sogndal, Brann and the Tippeligaen (Norway’s highest professional football league). He was the head coach of Sogndal and Tromso as well as Brann, Haugesund and Valerenga.
Aabrekk attempted to delay the match against Bodo/Glimt in 1995 by pretending that he had been injured by Truls Karlsen, Bodo/Glimt physiotherapist. He was uninjured but was transported by ambulance to the hospital. Verdens Gang interviewed him and he said that he felt he was lying too long on the ground. He didn’t dare get up, so remained on the ground. I was lying there thinking, “What’s the deal?” It wasn’t planned and definitely not very intelligent. It would have been better to call it a blackout. According to Dagbladet Norwegian Newspaper, this episode was the third most serious act of football acting.
In 2008 Aabrekk was hired by Brann as a scout. Halfway through the season, the club wanted Aabrekk and the assistant coach, Espen Steffensen, to switch jobs. Steffensen did not accept this and was fired, and Aabrekk became the new assistant coach of Brann, against the wishes of head coach Mons Ivar Mjelde. Following Brann’s bad performances and local press criticism of the lack of cooperation between Mjelde and Aabrekk, Mjelde announced on 7 October 2008 that he would resign as head coach at the end of the season. At the same time, the club announced that Aabrekk would return immediately to his job as scout, a position he kept until the contract expired.
Aabrekk was then hired as head coach of his old club, Sogndal from 1 January 2010, succeeding Karl Oskar Emberland. In his first season there, the team won promotion to the Tippeligaen, and in the next they avoided relegation. Following the 2011 season, Aabrekk retired. In his last match, he was named “Best Sogndal coach ever”.
Aabrekk worked later for the Football Association of Norway, where he was a coordinator for youth development for Western Norway. Aabrekk was also Nils Johan Semb’s assistant coach for Norway’s under-21 football team. In 1998, when Egil Olsen became the head coach of Norway’s national football team, Aabrekk was appointed assistant coach to the senior team. He was also Kjell Tennfjord’s assistant in Brann. In 1998, he became the team’s head coach. He led Brann to the 1999 Norwegian Cup finals, losing 2-0 to Rosenborg. After that, he was granted a one year leave of absence to continue working full-time as the assistant coach for the national team in preparations for the UEFA Euro 2000 soccer championship. Brann had already appointed Teitur Thordarson their head coach. Aabrekk was offered a position in the youth department. Brann denied that it was possible to combine the assistant coach position with this position.
