Hans-Peter Briegel is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on October 11, 1955 in Rodenbach, Germany. Hans-Peter Briegel, born 11 October 1955 in Rodenbach (West Germany), is an ex-German footballer and manager who played as a defender as well as as a middlefielder.
His first job as a coach was at FC Glarus in Switzerland, which is a second- tier club. After that, he worked at SV Edenkoben in the German lower league before he was promoted to manager at SG Wattenscheid 09 in 1994. This wasn’t a good experience. He quit coaching and re-joined 1. In 1996, he was appointed sporting director at FC Kaiserslautern. After a serious question of authority with Otto Rehhagel, the team’s manager in October 1997, he resigned. Later, he was reappointed as the club’s director, a move that led to him becoming embroiled in a financial scandal.
Briegel’s most recent engagement was coaching Turkish Super League side Ankaragücü, before leaving his post by the end of the 2006–07 season.
In June 2006 he agreed to a deal with the Football Association of Bahrain, taking over the Bahrain squad from Luka Peruzović. However, he was dismissed on 20 January 2007 during the 2007 Gulf Cup.
Briegel left Hellas Verona after his contract ended to sign with U.C. He won the Coppa italia with Sampdoria Genoa before he retired as a player in 1998. Hans-Peter Briegel was the most prominent symbol of the soldier-like reputation that German football has had between the years. His physical constitution, speed, and tireless running made him a success in football. His nickname Die Walz von der Pfalz, which literally means “The steamroller of Palatinate”, refers to both his playing style and his heritage. Briegel was an avid advocate of the idea that shin pads should not be worn and scored 47 goals in 240 Bundesliga matches.

Erich Ribbeck picked him up two years later and took him to 1. FC Kaiserslautern was impressed by the power, stamina and athleticism of the youngster. Ribbeck was well aware that Briegel struggled with balancing his football needs with his physical strength and presence. But, practice makes perfect. He was able to play a much better role as a defender, even though he struggled with the demands of being a striker. Ribbeck signed him as a substitute in a 4-3 victory over FC Bayern Munich on April 10, 1976. He remained with the local team until 1984. Before he left for Hellas Verona, he was with FC Kaiserslautern. His career was marked by his achievements in gaining his reputation and prominence in a league like the Italian Serie A. It is widely considered one of Europe’s most technical. Briegel was a key player in his club’s success, winning the Serie A title with the Gialloblu in 1985. In the same year, Briegel was awarded Fussballer des Jahres in Germany. This is remarkable because he was the first foreign recipient of the award in its history.
Briegel’s first opportunity to shine was in a Euro 1980 qualifier against Wales in October 1979. This was his last breakthrough for West Germany in that tournament, which saw them win the title. He was part of West Germany’s 1982 FIFA World Cup runner-up team and he also played in the Euro 1984 less successful tournament, all under Jupp Derwall’s coaching. He was the one who conceded a penalty in the 1982 World Cup final when he fouled Bruno Conti. Although the penalty was not missed, it didn’t stop West Germany losing the final. Franz Beckenbauer, Derwall’s successor, kept him in his squads, and Briegel was allowed to participate in the 1986 World Cup in Mexico. Although he was still a regular player, he was the one who finally led to Argentina’s victory. He was there, along with his defending teammates, on the Estadio Azteca pitch, just three minutes after Rudi Voller’s equaliser, and seven minutes before the extra-time was due. On 29 June, Diego Maradona’s pass to striker Jorge Burruchaga was about to go through. His teammates were aware that he was moving quickly to make the pass happen (to get the Argentinian striker offside), but Briegel’s hesitation proved to be a backfire for the West Germans and gave Burruchaga an opportunity to strike decisively. Burruchaga’s game-winning shot was scored by Burruchaga before Briegel’s desperate tackle. Beckenbauer was not a fan of Beckenbauer’s style of play and he did not intend to hinder the coach’s efforts to create a new team for Euro 1988 in West Germany. This is his 72nd appearance in Die Nationalmannschaft.
He accepted the offer of the Football Association of Albania to become head coach of Albania in December 2002. Before accepting the role Briegel had had various other job offers as his coaching experience, however limited, had been that of assistant to Karl-Heinz Feldkamp at Beşiktaş J.K. in Turkey, and the successor of Feldkamp at Beşiktaş J.K. (from September 1999 to 30 June 2000) and further on top of coaching at fellow Turkish Super League team Trabzonspor (7 November 2001 – 30 June 2002). However, he went ahead and accepted the Albania job with very much success for four years (2002–2006). To date he is the most successful coach of Albania of all times because of the number of points per match in the two qualifiers UEFA Euro 2004 Qualifications and the FIFA World Cup 2006 Qualification. He resigned from the role on 9 May 2006, after the extension of the contract offered him by the Albanian Federation was linked to the results that would be obtained.
