After a successful Formula 2 season with a March BMW, Stuck entered F1 in March. Stuck was a participant in 81 Grands Prix. He made his debut on 13 January 1974. Stuck was awarded two podiums and 29 championship points. Stuck was also the first driver to be born following the 1950 inaugural Grand Prix. Stuck had a great time at Brabham Alfa in 1977. He won the 1977 United States Grand Prix at Watkins Glen, in the rain. However, he was replaced by Niki Lauda in 1978. Stuck missed the opportunity to join Williams F1 shortly before this team was successful.
January 2008 saw Stuck began his current position with Volkswagen Motorsport. This role has also seen him use his experience to help refine road cars, including the new Golf VI GTI.
Stuck announced the end of his active career as a race driver after 43 years after the 2011 Nürburgring 24 Hours, in which he participated with a Reiter Engineering Lamborghini Gallardo LP600+ GT3 together with Dennis Rostek and his sons Ferdinand Stuck and Johannes Stuck. Team Stuck³ finished 15th overall following gearbox problems.
Stuck teamed with Jochen Mass in 1972 to drive a Ford Capri RS2600 for victory at the Spa 24 Hours endurance racing race in Belgium. In 1974 and 1975, his campaigns to race the BMW 3.0 CSL “Batmobile”, were extremely successful. He also won the American DRM in the USA with Ronnie Peterson. In the 1970s, he raced the turbocharged BMW 320i.

He was born in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, and is the son of Christa Thielmann and the legendary Hans Stuck. His father taught him how to drive on the Nurburgring as a youngster. He started his first motor race at the Nordschleife in 1969. He said that it was an exciting day to get on the grid. My dreams of becoming a racer suddenly came true. “I just wanted to race and make everyone mad!” At just 19 years old, he won the first 24-hour race in a BMW 2002ti. He won it again in 1998, and 2004 with a BMW touring vehicle.
His height of 194 cm (6 ft 4 inches) meant that he was not able to fit into the F1 cars in the 1970s, which had the cockpit moved forward. He probably avoided serious injuries to his leg by leaving F1 at that point, which was also the case for Clay Regazzoni and Marc Surer.
