Hans Abrahamsen is one of the most popular and richest Composer who was born on December 23, 1952 in Copenhagen, Capital Region of Denmark, Denmark. Hans Abrahamsen, a Danish composer who was born 23 December 1952 in Copenhagen.
Abrahamsen only completed one piece between 1990 and 1998. It was a brief song. According to the composer, he was “paralyzed” by white paper because of the prevalent attitudes towards complexity in music. He returned from his hiatus to begin work on new arrangements for Johann Sebastian Bach. These arrangements were orchestrated with many nods towards minimalist composers, foreshadowing the aesthetic changes in Abrahamsen’s music.
The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra gave the British premiere of the song cycle in 2014. The same year CBSO co-commissioned from Abrahamsen a concerto for piano left hand. Left, Alone received its world premiere in Cologne in January 2016, performed by pianist Alexandre Tharaud, for whom the concerto was composed. Four months later, Tharaud gave the British premiere for the CBSO, conducted by Ilan Volkov. Abrahamsen has written that being “born with a right hand that is not fully functional” has given him “a close relationship with the works written for the left hand by Ravel and others.”
His first opera Snedronningen (The Snow Queen) is a free adaptation of the fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. It was premiered at the Danish Opera House on 13 October 2019 and received its first performance in English (by Bayerische Staatsoper) at the National Theater in Munich on 21 December 2019.
He was also involved in a group called “The Gruppen for Alternativ Musik”, which was created to allow musicians “to perform new music in alternate forms” and “to create socially and political committed music.” These ideals are evident in his Symphony in C, originally called Anti-EEC Sats (Anti-EEC Movement). The composer realized that music could not be opposed and changed the title. His style quickly changed and he developed a personal dialogue between Romanticism and his orchestral work Nacht und Trompeten. He was first successful when the Berlin Philharmonic performed this piece in 1982. Hans Werner Henze (a well-known composer) was soon a champion for Abrahamsen’s music.
