Hamid Ismailov is one of the most popular and richest Journalist who was born on May 5, 1954 in Tokmok, Uzbekistan. He created the fictional literary group “Conference of Refined” at the end of 1980s. It consisted of acclaimed and published heteronym poets and philosophers, literary critics and writers, as well as translators.

The BBC announced that Ismailov was appointed Writer in Residence at BBC World Service for two-years on 30 April 2010. The blog was launched in May 2010. Hamid Ismailov, who had been serving a tenure of 4,5 years, announced via his Twitter and Facebook accounts on 31 December 2014 that he was ending his tenure. Ismailov represented Uzbekistan in the Poetry Parnassus held in London, June 2012.

Hamid Ismailov (Russian: Хамид Исмайлов ) (Uzbek: Hamid Ismoilov / Ҳамид Исмоилов or Абдулҳамид Исмоил ) born May 5, 1954 in Tokmok, Kyrgyzstan, is an Uzbek journalist and writer who was forced to flee Uzbekistan in 1992 and came to the United Kingdom, where he took a job with the BBC World Service. He left the BBC on the 30 April, 2019 after 25 years of service. His works are banned in Uzbekistan.

Robert Chandler published the first English translation of Ismailov’s novel The Railway (Russian, Zheleznaia doroga), which was originally written before he left Uzbekistan. In 1997, a Russian edition was published in Moscow under the pseudonym Altaer Magdi. A Poet and Bin-Laden, an English translation of “Doroga K smerti Bol’she Chem smert ‘”),” by Andrew Bromfield was also published in September 2012. His trilogy of novels, “Mbobo” in English, The Underground (published worldwide through Restless Book, Googling for Soul and Two Lost to Life) have been also translated into English. Peirene Press published his book “The Dead Lake”, an English translation of “VunderkindErzhan” by Andrew Bromfield in early 2014. Tilted Axis Publishing published his novel, “The Devils’ Dance”, in 2018. It was awarded the EBRD Literary Prize in 2019
