In 2003, Hayrettin was appointed Waltham Forest manager. He helped the club win the Essex Senior Cup. He became the manager of Conference South side Thurrock in May 2006. Hayrettin said that he couldn’t resist the challenge of raising a sleeping giant when he took over Thurrock. Hayrettin was fired by the club in October 2010 at the beginning of the 2010-11 season.

It was announced on 5 July 2013 that Hayrettin had left Grays to join John Still’s coaching team at Conference Premier side Luton Town as first team coach . He left the club on 7 January 2016 following the appointment of Nathan Jones as manager. During his time there he helped the club win the Conference title in the first season and finishing 8th in the first season back in the Football League the following season. Hayrettin also coached the U23’s side winning the Football League final third U23’s title in their first season back in the Football League.

On 27 September 2016, Hayrettin was appointed as first-team manager of National League club Braintree Town. After Braintree’s relegation at the end of 2016–17, he left the club by mutual consent on 8 May 2017.

He was not selected for the Doncaster team and was released in October 1996 after sustaining the same knee injury at Cambridge. After sustaining the same injury, he joined Peterborough United. However, he was forced to quit full- time football in 1997. After joining Watford as a youth football coach, he continued his non-league player career with Heybridge Swifts. He then moved on to Hayes Rushden & Diamonds, Harrow Borough, and Hayes Rushden & Diamonds. Barnet sent him as a trialist to play against Boreham wood on 31 August 1999. He would then spend the 1999-2000 season playing with Boreham Wood. Boreham Wood was his last stop, and he returned to Harrow Borough in July 2000, as both a player, as well as a coach assistant. He also worked as a stock processing supervisor. By September 2001, he had already left Harrow.

Hayretin started his career in apprenticeship with Leyton Orient. He became a professional in July 1988. Hayretin was released from Leyton Orient without being able to break into the first team. He joined Barnet in August 1989. He signed for Turkish side Karsiyaka in 1990. However, his Turkish heritage would have made him eligible to serve in national service. The prospect of war and the deteriorating situation in the Gulf meant that he decided to resign at Barnet, which later won the Conference and was promoted to the Football League.

In January 1993, he joined Torquay United as a loan player. He also played on loan for Wycombe Wanderers in that same season. He was also part of their FA Trophy winning team. Wycombe signed him on a free transfer in Juli 1993. He played 27 games and scored a memorable goal against Preston North End. This helped Wycombe achieve a second consecutive promotion via the play-offs. After sustaining a serious knee injury in August 1994, he transferred to Cambridge United for a free transfer. In July 1995, he transferred free to Doncaster Rovers.

On 26 May 2011, he was appointed manager of Isthmian League Division One North side Grays Athletic, signing a two-year contract. He led the club to the play- offs in his first season in charge, but lost in the semi-final. In the 2012–13 season Hayrettin led Grays to promotion into the Isthmian League Premier Division with a club-record 102 points, only losing four league games throughout the campaign.
