Hafez Makhlouf is one of the most popular and richest Military Personnel who was born on April 2, 1971 in Damascus, Damascus Governorate, Syria. Makhlouf was born on 2 April 1971 in Damascus. He is the maternal cousin to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, and the brother to Rami Makhlouf (Syria’s most successful businessman). He was a close friend and officer of the Republican Guard, where he was commissioned in 1992. Makhlouf was involved with the 1994 high-speed car accident that resulted in the death of Bashar al-Assad’s older brother, Bassel al-Assad.

Al Arabiya reported Makhlouf’s death in a bombing attack on Syria’s National Security Headquarters in Damascus. However, other sources indicated that Makhlouf was not injured in the attack.

Makhlouf was a Colonel of the Army and the head of intelligence at the General Security Directorate’s Damascus branch until 2014.

For money laundering suspicions in 2011, Swiss authorities frozen Hafez Makhlouf’s account in a Geneva bank, which was worth 3 million euros. After appealing, Makhlouf was granted a legal bid to free SFr 3million ($3.3 million) from Swiss bank accounts. This was in response to the sanctions. At the end of 2011, Switzerland’s supreme Court rejected Makhlouf’s legal request to enter Switzerland to meet his lawyers.
