Hadi Tjahjanto, a former air chief marshal of the Indonesian Air Force and currently the Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces, was born 8 November 1963. He is a graduate of the Indonesian Air Force Academy and Flight School and was named Commander of the Armed Forces by President Joko Widodo (Panglima) in 2017.
Gatot’s retirement date in 2018 was set for 4/12/2017. Jokowi, through Secretary of State Pratikno, submitted a letter to People’s Representative Council via deputy chairman FadliZon, naming Hadi the sole candidate to succeed him.
Formerly also a military secretary to President Joko Widodo, the president nominated him to the People’s Representative Council as the sole candidate for the Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (Panglima TNI), replacing Gatot Nurmantyo. He was formally appointed on 8 December 2017.
On 8 December 2017, he was officially inaugurated, making him the second TNI commander after Djoko Suyanto in 2006 and 2007.

Hadi’s father, Bambang Sudardo, was a personnel officer at Abdurrahman Saleh. This motivated him to enroll in the Air Force Academy after he graduated from high school. After completing the flight school and academy, Hadi became a pilot. He was initially a pilot at the Malang airfield where his father had served.
After many years of flying CASA light airlift aircrafts, he was promoted as a squadron training officer in 1993. He then began to fly heavier planes by 1996. After becoming squadron commander in 1997, he moved to Adisumarmo Airport (Surakarta) and then to Adisucipto to continue his climb up the ranks. He was the commander of Adisumarmo’s airbase from 2010 to 2011. This is where he met Joko Widodo, then-mayor, of Surakarta. He was the air force’s spokesperson (2013) and Abdurrahman Saleh commander (2015). Jokowi was elected military secretary to the President on 25 July 2015. He also received a promotion as an air vice-marshal.
On 20 January 2017, Jokowi appointed him as the new chief of staff of the Air Force to replace the retiring Agus Supriatna. His name had been nominated as one of three by TNI Commander Gatot Nurmantyo. Along with this promotion, he was made air chief marshal.
