Guy Delisle (born January 19 1966) is a Canadian cartoonist and animator most well-known by his comic books that chronicle his travels, including Shenzhen (2000), Pyongyang: A Journey in North Korea (2003), Burma Chronicles (2007) as well as Jerusalem (2011).
In 2016, Delisle published S’enfuir. Recit of an Otage (Dargaud) which was that was translated to English to be Hostage released in the magazine Drawn & Quarterly in 2017. The graphic novel tells the real tale of Christophe Andre, a Medecins Sans Frontieres administrator who was abducted in the Caucasus Region in 1997. Hostage was a finalist for the Brooklyn Public Library’s literary prize.
The summer of 2009 they spent one year at Beit Hanina, Jerusalem, together along with Medecins Sans Frontieres. The experience was documented within Chroniques de Jerusalem (2011) that won an Angoleme International Comics Festival Prize for Best Album of 2012. It also covered The Gaza War. The book was published in France, Chroniques de Jerusalem (English title: Jerusalem: Chronicles from the Holy City) was a bestseller.
