Gurban Gurbanov (born 13 April 1972 in Zaqatala) is a Azerbaijani football manager as well as a former footballer. He is the manager at FK Qarabag. He was forward. He began his career with the his local team Kur back in the year 1988. Gurbanov enjoyed a successful professional career that lasted for 18 years. The goal score was 178 during 399 league games. With 14 goals scored in his 68 matches, he’s the all-time top goalscorer in Azerbaijan in international games. In 2017-2018, he was the manager of the Azerbaijan national team.
He was one of the top Azerbaijani director in European competitions , winning 16 times.
On 3 November 2017, Gurbanov was appointed as manager of Azerbaijan national football team. A year later, on 8 December 2018 he resigned.
In 2017 FK Qarabağ, managed by Gurbanov, became the first Azerbaijani team to reach the group stages of the UEFA Champions League.
After he completed his career as a footballer He was appointed director of sport at the team Inter. In summer 2006, the position was made the head manager at Neftchi Baku. Since the beginning of season 2008/09, he has been been appointed head coach at FK Qarabag to replace Rasim Kara.

He began his career in Kur and has played for Mertskhali Ozurgeti Dasqin Zaqatala, Alazani Gurjaani, Turan Tovuz, Neftchi Baku, Dinamo Stavropol, Baltika Kaliningrad, Fakel Voronezh and Volgar Gazprom. His last team he was a part of at was Inter Baku. In 1996-97, Gurbanov was the top scoring player for the Azerbaijan Premier League for Neftchi with 25 goals. Gurbanov was named Azerbaijan’s player of the year two times in 2003.
On May 2014, he guided Qarabağ to their second Azerbaijani league title after 21 years. In July 2014, he became the second Azerbaijani manager to reach the European Cups group stage, as Qarabağ qualified for the 2014-15 UEFA Europa League group stage, beating Twente and being the second Azerbaijani team to advance to this stage in a European competitions.
