Haerr established Century Software in the year 1982, after relocating from his home town in La Jolla to Salt Lake City in 1981. Haerr is the oldest of seven siblings.
As of December 28, 2008 Haerr became part of the crew of FOX reality show Secret Millionaire in Las Vegas in which he donated his own $150,000 to worthy individuals and organizations such as the extreme wheelchair sportsman Aaron Fotheringham.
Haerr’s experiences with Windows as well as UNIX operating systems led him to move to the more modern, free Linux operating system. The year 1999 was the time he developed a free , graphical-based windowing software called Microwindows which could be run on embedded, small Linux systems. The system, due to its tiny size and no cost, made it possible for many to develop their own applications within the rapidly growing PDA and mobile market.
