In December of 2010 The U.S. Olympic Committee appointed Troy to serve as Head Coach of the U.S. men’s swimming team for the 2012 Summer Olympics to take place at London, England. Troy’s team of men’s Olympic team was awarded 16 medals in 17 events.

Troy was the chief coach for the Florida Gators men’s swimming and diving teams at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida from 1999, and was the head coach for the Gators women’s team since 1998. Prior to joining with the Gators from 1998 to 1998, he served as the director of swimming teams at The Bolles School in Jacksonville, Florida, a position that he held for a total of twenty years. In his time at Bolles the school’s prep swim teams were state champions, winning 15 boys team championships as well as the girls’ championships for eleven teams.

Then in 2010, they took home their first NCAA national team championship.
