The family was raised in Holyoke, Colorado on 6 September 1966. Raised on the family farm close to Wray and Wray — both tiny towns located in rural northeastern Colorado Brophy Brophy was a graduate of Wray High School in the year 1988, where he wrestled in Wray High School’s Colorado state championships. He was also part of the Future Farmers of America. Brophy went to Colorado State University, where the 1988 graduation ceremony was a success, with an animal science degree.

After graduating from college Brophy went back to Wray to become an expert farm manager for Progressive Agricultural Management, Inc. which that he held from 2000. He is currently the manager of his family’s farm and is growing alfalfa and beans, as well as wheat, watermelons, corn and more.

In 2005, Brophy was appointed to fill a vacancy in the Colorado State Senate for Senate District 1, consisting of a broad section of northeastern Colorado. He was selected after his predecessor Mark Hillman was appointed to serve as Colorado’s State Treasurer under then-Governor Bill Owens.

Brophy stood for election to a full four-year Senate term in 2006, again defeating Democrat James Bowen.

Between 2000 and the year 2002 Brophy served as an assistant manager to United States Senator Wayne Allard.

During the 2002 election, Brophy was opposed only by Libertarian Gene Leverett. During his 2004 re-election campaign, he defeated Democrat James Bowen by a 3:1 margin.
