West Virginia played Rutgers in an essential game Wiley assisted in helping the Mountaineers beat the Rutgers team 34-19, scoring 11 tackles as well as an interception from a dive. As of 2001, the second season was a quiet one for him because of an unresolved hamstring injury during the Mountaineers opening game against Boston College.
