Grant started his career at Grimsby Town and was added to the first team squad for the 2007-08 campaign by Alan Buckley and was offered an extension for the next season. Grant made his debut under the management of Mike Newell as he came on as a substitute to James Hunt in the 82nd minute of the club’s draw at home against Exeter City. Normington was later given an extension of two years on November 28, 2008 after his performance since the appointment of the new manager.
His preferred place of play is on the right side of midfield, but it has been reported that he can play as a right defender. Normington played professionally with Grimsby Town between 2008 and the year 2010. He then had stints as a player with Frickley Athletic and Hall Road Rangers.
He made a return to football on 17 February 2015, in signing for Humber Premier League outfit Chalk Lane, after 4 years away from the game.
