At Surrey He immediately joined a winning first-innings partnership alongside Alan Butcher which lasted until the 1986 season , when Butcher was unable to maintain his form, and was moved down the order, and later removed from the squad before being let go at the request of Surrey at the conclusion to the campaign. After he retired Clinton became the coach of Surrey’s Second XI in 1992, leading the side to the Second XI Championship in that year. He coached Surrey’s First XI from 1994 to 1995 but left the county by mutual consent after “two … seasons of unfulfilled promise”. He was also a coach at Kent and, as of 2017, is master-in-charge of cricket at Colfe’s School in Greenwich.

Grahame Selvey Clinton (born 5 May 1953) is an ex- English professional player of the game. The opening batsman was a player with Kent County Cricket Club from 1974 to 1978 , as well as in the Surrey County Cricket Club from 1979 until 1990.
Clinton first joined Kent’s Second XI in 1971 and made his debut as a first- class cricketer in the county’s squad against the travelling Pakistanis during a match at Canterbury during July of 1974. Clinton did not return for the county until the year 1976 and except for 1977, where he made 18 first-class appearances chances with Kent were limited in the team that was crowned champions in 1978 County Championship and Benson & Hedges Cup and also shared the 1977 championship.
