Graham Benstead is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on August 20, 1963 in Aldershot, United Kingdom. Graham Mark Benstead (born 20 August 1963 in Aldershot, Hampshire) is a former professional football goalie who played over 110 times within the Football League for Brentford. He also played in the league at Sheffield United, Colchester United, Norwich City and was named a player by England at semi-pro and youth level. Benstead is currently the goalkeeping instructor in Frimley Green.

Despite being absent for four months during the 1992-1993 First Division season with knee ligament injury and a hamstring strain, Benstead played 32 games throughout the season. The campaign culminated in a straight return into the Second Division. Benstead refused to sign a new contract that was offered to him in the 1993 off-season, and was offered to loan. He was not able to get along with the new coach David Webb and made just seven appearances in the early part of 1993-94 until he joined Conference top-flyers Kettering Town for a loan deal in the month of October. The contract was signed on a permanent basis on December 23, 1993 and Benstead signing a no-cost transfer. Benstead played 144 times in only three years at Griffin Park.

Benstead joined Isthmian League Premier Division club Basingstoke Town in 1998 and wound down his career with spells at Chertsey Town, Farnborough Town and Stevenage Borough.

Benstead has worked as a goalkeeping coach at Brentford, Basingstoke Town, Chertsey Town, Farnborough Town, Stevenage Borough and Frimley Green. He served as caretaker manager of Farnborough Town for one match and in 2004 was assistant to manager Graham Westley at Stevenage Borough.

Benstead played regularly at Sheffield United during the 1988-89 season, following the conclusion that season, the team celebrated their promotion into the Second Division after a second-place place finish. He was replaced by Simon Tracey during the 1989-90 season, and only made one more appearance for the club prior to being transferred into Third Division Brentford in July 1990 for a cost of PS60,000 as well as a further payment of PS10,000 due after 25 games. Benstead enjoyed a great start to his season at Brentford and missed just one game while maintaining 23 clean sheets, and winning the Club’s Supporters’ and Player player of the year award. Despite being plagued by knee and hamstring injuries, the situation was more successful during the 1991-92 campaign which saw the Bees were crowned Champions in the Third Division.

This included a start in the 3-1 FA Cup third round defeat to West Bromwich Albion. After a brief loan stint at Norwich City late in the 1984-85 campaign, Benstead was a part of his newly-relegated Second Division club at the conclusion of the season. The cost was the initial cost of PS10,000, and up to PS35,000 as additions.

After being promoted straight up to First Division in 1985-86 and facing the competition from PS100,000 new signee Bryan Gunn, Benstead began the 1986-87 season as Norwich City’s top goalkeeper, however an injury to his shoulder suffered in November of 1986 put an end to the Carrow Road career. After loan stints at Colchester United and Sheffield United and Sheffield United, he signed with Sheffield United as a permanent player for a price of PS35,000 in 1988.

Benstead’s 18 months with Conference club Kettering ended with second and sixth-place finishes respectively and he dropped down to the Southern League Premier Division to move to Northamptonshire rivals Rushden & Diamonds in June

  1. He had an excellent 1995–96 season, helping the club to the Premier Division title and promotion to the Conference. Benstead made just seven appearances during the 1996–97 season and had a non-playing spell with Kingstonian, before making a surprise return to Brentford in July 1997, as player/goalkeeping coach on a week-to-week deal. Minor surgery required by first-choice goalkeeper Kevin Dearden meant that Benstead made his second debut for the club in a 3–1 defeat to York City on 11 October 1997. He made one further appearance in an FA Cup first round replay versus former club Colchester United on 25 November, before being released by new manager Micky Adams in January 1998.
