Booch received the bachelor’s degree in 1977 at the United States Air Force Academy and earned a master’s degree of electronics engineering later in 1979 at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

He gave the Turing Lecture in 2007. He was awarded the IEEE Computer Society Computer Pioneer award in 2016 for his pioneering work in Object Modeling that led to the creation of the Unified Modeling Language (UML).
