A winner of the Sahitya Akademi Award, India Gourahari is a prolific writer as well as editor and columnist. His first novel ” Juara Bhatta” which is an anthology of short stories was released in 1981, when it was still in the process of completing his studies at Ravenshaw Evening College. In addition to writing fiction, he regularly writes columns for newspapers like SAMBAD which is very well-known.

He joined SAMBAD (the biggest Daily of Odisha) in 1985 as a trainee editor and then rose to become an editor of the Media House. The long-term relationship to Sambad Group gave him an opportunity to discover his many-faceted talents. He began writing his acclaimed column “Jibanara Jalachhabi” ( Vignetts of Life) and ” Rajadhani Rajaniti” ( Power Politics of the Capital) in this publication that made him famous. While the first column is a satirical and creative look at human existence, the second is political satire. In the following years, he became the editor of KATHA (the fictional monthly of the Sambad Group). He is also the principal of the Sambad School of Media and Culture which is a pioneering media institution that is affiliated to Utkal University of Culture since 2007.
