Gopal Swami Khetanchi is one of the most popular and richest Painter who was born on February 15, 1958 in Sardarshahar, India. Khetanchi was born in northern Rajasthan on February 2nd, 1958. He was born in Sardarshahar town, which is located in Churu district. He was born to a father Khetaram painted, who was an art teacher at an official education institution in Sardarshahar. Khetanchi was raised in Rajasthan in a place that was conducive to creativity and began painting at 15 and began with portraits before transitioning to paintings. He was inspired by works from Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Rembrandt and Ingres.
According to the critic P B Chandra, Khetanchi is possibly the only artist other than Ram Gopal Vjayvargiya to be a specialist in the painting of women in a variety of styles and moods. Chandra believes that Khetanchi’s portrayal of women is influenced to the art style that was created by Raja Ravi Varma, although Khetanchi declares that he does not intend to imitate any artist of the past or imitate any contemporary artists and his style is distinct. Chandra stated the year 2003, that Khetanchi’s paintings were focused on regional themes with the addition of romanticism to his work.
Khetanchi’s work saw several phases and styles like Realism, Surrealism and Abstraction, before ending in a combination of traditional and modern art. In 2006, the style in his exhibition Shringar combined fine linework of Rajasthani miniature paintings with the prettiness of Victorian kitsch. By 2011, he had moved from pure figuration to conceptual renderings and started experimenting with different palettes and imaging styles.
From 2008 to 2010, Khetanchi researched the message and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and their contemporary relevance. Khetanchi sees Mahatma Gandhi as a motivational force in his life. He is passionate about Gandhi’s vision and says:
Khetanchi earned the Master of Arts degree in Drawing and Painting at the University of Rajasthan in Jaipur. He started his art career in Mumbai working on film sets and drawing pedestrians on his favorite beach, Juhu beach. In Mumbai He was an assistant director alongside Manzoor Ul Haq on a number of Bollywood films such as Muqaddar Ka Sikandar (1978), Abdullah (1980), Jwalamukhi (1980) and Kaalia (1981). Khetanchi states that he didn’t enjoy the atmosphere associated with Bollywood which is why he chose to channel his creative talents into painting. The artist returned to Rajasthan and began painting forts and the culture that the country has to offer. Through the years He captured the rich culture, customs rural beauty, the arts and crafts of Rajasthan. According to Khetanchi the artist was given limelight and recognition from 2003 his work was showcased throughout two cities: New Delhi and Jaipur.

Gopal Swami Khetanchi (born 15 February 1958) is an Indian artist based in Jaipur. Born into a family of artists located in north Rajasthan, Khetanchi studied fine art in Jaipur and then worked for a short years as an assistant director of art in Bollywood as well as an illustrator for magazines prior to returning back Rajasthan to pursue painting.
Khetanchi is a painter who works with oils on canvas as he’s been this since the year 1971. He hasn’t tried acrylic paints since he believes he can control color values using oil colours. He generally takes months to finish an artwork and is able to work in four layers.
Khetanchi has reinterpreted the Mona Lisa in two oil-on-canvasses painted in 2006: Devashree (24 by 36 inches) and Bani-Thani (20 by 30 inches), of which the latter is a combination of the Mona Lisa and the eponymous painting Bani Thani by Nihal Chand. Bani-Thani was used in the promotion for Le Festival des Écrivains du monde: Écrivains de l’Inde held in Paris in 2014 and on the cover of the November–December 2014 edition of Nouvelles De L’Inde, the bimonthly publication of the Indian embassy in Paris.
