Gocha Tsitsiashvili (Hebrew: gvTS’h TsyTSyASHvvyly , Georgian Gocha Ciciashvili born on November 7, 1973 Tbilisi, Georgian SSR) is a former amateur Israeli Greco- Roman wrestler who wrestled in the male lightweight category. As one of the best Greco-Roman wrestlers during his decade, Tsitsiashvili had claimed numerous medals on the international stage as well as his impressive gold medal from the 2003 World Wrestling Championships, and then he was a part of the Israeli team at three different occasions of the Olympic Games (1996, 2000 in 2004 and 2000). Tsitsiashvili was also a part of the Hapoel Be’er Sheva Club under his personal coach Yakov Masin.
In the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Tsitsiashvili qualified for his third team as an experienced veteran aged 31 in the men’s 84-kg class. He had a remarkable historic victory. Prior to that he beat Sweden’s Ara Abrahamian to take home the light heavyweight title and an Olympic silver medal in the 2003 World Wrestling Championships in Creteil, France, which made him eligible for the Israeli Olympic team. In the preliminary group, Tsitsiashvili eclipsed France’s Melonin Noumonvi, who had a dominant score of 3-1. He was unable to not bring Russian wrestler and European champion Alexei Mishin into the ring and was beaten by his opponent who was fresh and not scoring one point. Tsitsiashvili did not make it to the quarterfinals, having finished the pool in second position and 14th overall. Being concerned about his age and his future game strategy, Tsitsiashvili announced his retirement from the sport soon after the Games.
In a bid to make it back on the Olympic scene and win a medal, Tsitsiashvili entered the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney as an elite medal contender in the light heavyweight men’s category (85 kilograms). He was defeated in his first match against the Norwegian Fritz Aanes, but managed to secure two wins to defeat the Uzbekstan’s Yuriy Vitt as well as Tunisia’s Amor Bach Hamba in the preliminary pool. The second place finisher in the elimination round, and sixth overall, his performance did not suffice to propel him into the semifinals, and he was able to leave the Games in a state of grief.

Tsitsiashvili began his wrestling career as an athlete of the former Soviet team. After emigrating into Israel at the age of 24, Tsitsiashvili set his sights on the chance to participate in the international scene and eventually be awarded an award of silver in the European Wrestling Championships in Athens, Greece. The next one year Tsitsiashvili was able to further develop his athletic career, finishing third in the same event and later clinching an award of silver in the 82-kg category at the 1995 World Wrestling Championships in Atlanta, Georgia, United States and became the first Israeli to win an athletic medal.
As Israel’s sole wrestler on his team Tsitsiashvili began his professional career in the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta in which he wrestled in the class of middleweight men (82 kilograms). After a successful start in the initial rounds in the semifinals, he came into the finals strong and undefeated however, he lost against Germany’s Thomas Zander, and then cut down his chances to compete for the bronze medal when his opponent was Kazakhstan’s Daulet Turlykhanov in the following match. While the Swedish’s Martin Lidberg being frail and injured, Tsitsiashvili managed to finish with a fifth place finish at the end of the tournament.
