Watson was a player for the legendary trainer Gene Pingatore at St. Joseph High School in Westchester, Illinois. As an senior, he averaged 15.5 points. He also had 4.3 rebounding, 4.0 assists along with 3.0 steals for each game while helping his Chargers to a record of 29-6 as well as a second state championship. All in all, Watson had nine games that featured at least 20 point in his senior year. In recognition of his efforts, he was named to the first team all-state team by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association and Champaign News-Gazette in 2015. Additionally, Watson was a second-team selection from The Chicago Tribune (all classes) and Chicago Sun Times (Class 3A). Watson played in the summer as a player for The Illinois Wolves, one of the best AAU teams in the region.
