On the 28th of August, 2010 Giovani defeated undefeated WBO Light Flyweight champion Ivan Calderon in a fight for unification. Segura then knocked off Calderon during the 8th round, thereby consolidating his WBA title alongside the Puerto Rican’s WBO and Lineal Light Flyweight Championships. In his next bout He defeated the champion Manuel Vargas via 7th round end.
Giovani began boxing at the age of 15 years and had an Amateur Record of 38–4.
Giovanni defeated Colombian Cesar Canchila for the Interim WBA Light Flyweight title. Segura lost the fight with a unanimous decision. However, he later took the interim title after beating Canchila in the rematch on 14 March on the 14th of March, 2009.

Segura made his debut in the professional arena on March 28 of 2003. He amassed a record of 18-0-1, including victories over his future world champion Carlos Tamara and former champion Daniel Reyes.
