Giorgio Pantano is one of the most popular and richest Racing Automobile Driver who was born on February 4, 1979 in Padua, Veneto, Italy. Giorgio Pantano (born 4 February 1979) is an Italian professional racer who was a driver in Jordan Formula One. Jordan Formula One team for most of the season in 2004 prior to being substituted by Timo Glock. He also had success at the top of Formula 3000.
After an unsuccessful year with Formula One, he left the championship. In 2005, he competed in the first GP2 Series season for the SuperNova team. He raced alongside Adam Carroll of Northern Ireland who defied the odds by beating Pantano. He also raced for the Indy Racing League for Chip Ganassi Racing during the two road-course races during 2005. The team reverted to two cars for the 2006 season and signed Champion Dan Wheldon alongside Scott Dixon. Pantano participated in a number of in-season Champ Car tests for PKV Racing and Mi-Jack Conquest Racing but they did not result in an entry into the entire season. Pantano was absent for the majority of the beginning of the new season , but he ended up discovering a new phase of life with Giancarlo Fisichella’s GP2 team FMS. After a crash in the first day back, Pantano impressed in the car. His experience earned his points-scoring performances during the second half of the season. He also scored three victories. He raced with former Formula One Adrian Campos’s team back in 2007. In June, he won the team’s first win in the series, taking home the feature race with a tense atmosphere in France.
For the 2008 season he signed to partner Spaniard Javier Villa at the Racing Engineering team. Pantano started the season well, taking fourth and third positions in the Spanish feature and sprint races respectively. Things were even better in the Turkish feature race, for which he took pole and won the race. After a measured drive to fourth in the sprint race Pantano led the championship, but lost the lead to Bruno Senna following two retirements in Monaco. However he retook the lead following a win at the French feature race, in which Senna retired. Despite retirement in the sprint race Pantano left France with the championship lead. Following further feature race wins in both Britain and Germany Pantano increased his championship lead over Senna.
Pantano was linked to a return to the IndyCar Series in 2010, driving a Panther Racing entry. He instead signed on to drive in Auto GP for Super Nova Racing, finishing 13th in the championship.
Pantano was ready for the Formula One debut for Jaguar However, two days before the date he was scheduled to join the team, they struck a deal to sign a contract with Christian Klien, who was capable of obtaining $10 million funds through Red Bull. Pantano was able to secure funding from Red Bull. Italian decided to sign with Jordan Formula One. Jordan Formula One team in the beginning of 2004, and following little testing, his season was not without a hitch. He came last in his race in Melbourne and his teammate, who was more experienced Nick Heidfeld, retired with an issue with his transmission. He raced on, but failing in qualifying or finishing higher than the bottom of the field. He ended up was forced to retire several times and never getting the attention of others. He was replaced on an unspecified time with German rookie Timo Glock (due to financial issues) in the Canadian Grand Prix, who got two points to finish seventh ahead of his teammate Nick Heidfeld who was eighth. Pantano came back to his spot with the team in time for the following race at Indianapolis but he disqualified in the first corner after a collision with the other drivers. The driver continued to post poor results, through the Italian Grand Prix at Monza following which he was substituted with Timo Glock to drive the final three race of the campaign. Pantano admitted later that it was his decision to quit racing with Jordan because of the financial burden imposed on his family as well as his personal feelings of the organization favoring Teammate Heidfeld over himself. Pantano was reported to be returning back to Formula One in 2010 with Campos Meta, but the team announced the news that Bruno Senna and Karun Chandhok were joining the team.

In his debut year of Cadet Karting, he was able to win both the Italian as well as European titles. In 1994, he took home both the Italian and World title in Junior Karting. In 1995 and 1996, he took home his European Formula A title. In 1996, he hired by AMG-Mercedes from which he experienced an uphill climb to get into Formula One racing. He joined into the season of winter at Palmer Audi in 1999 and tried out in his Astromega Formula 3000 team prior to joining the KMS team, which would allow the team to compete with the team in Formula Three for his debut year of racing single-seaters. He took first place in his first race, and then went on to win the title.
The first time he was exposed to Formula One came in 2000 when he was evaluated by Benetton. But he was a part of Astromega for Formula 3000 in 2001 and took home the title in Monza. The same year, he was a test driver for McLaren. In 2002, he tried his hand at Williams and Minardi however was not able to get into Formula One, so he joined the Durango team. They took home two wins within the International Formula 3000 series in 2003. He was able to earn third spot on the overall championship. He almost spent the entire year with Champ Car, but the BC Motorsports team with whom the team he thought he was on signed a contract was found to be fraudulent.
He raced in the GP2 Series from its inaugural year in 2005 until his championship campaign in 2008, holding the record for most races competed and most races won in the series. As of 2011, these records have been taken over by Luca Filippi (86 starts) and Pastor Maldonado (10 wins) respectively.
