Giorgio Di Centa (born October 7th, 1972, from Tolmezzo, Province of Udine) is an Italian cross-country skier who took home two gold medals in the 2006 Winter Olympics which included the 50km freestyle individual race. His younger sister is Olympic gold medalist and the cross- country skier Manuela Di Centa.

In 2010, the Winter Olympics, a picture of Di Centa in competition during the 50 km race at last year’s Olympics could be used to create a symbol for the cross-country skiing competitions. In September 2009 it was announced that Di Centa was named flagbearer during the opening ceremony for 2010’s Games. 2010 Games.

He retired on March 1, 2015 at the age of 42 after the end of the 50 km at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2015.

Di Centa’s biggest win was the 50-kilometer race in which he beat Russian Eugeni Dementiev 0.8 seconds. This was the fastest 50km race in Olympic history. He beat Thomas Wassberg’s 4.9 second win in the race against Gunde Svan (both Sweden) at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo. The ceremony to award medals for the 50km race took place in the Closing Ceremony where Di Centa’s sister, Olympic medalist Manuela Di Centa handed him his gold medal.
