Gilbert John Mendonca (born 9 October 1952) is an Indian politician from the state of Maharashtra. Mendonca was a one-term representative of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, being an elected part of the 12th Assembly and serving in the lower house from 2009 until 2014.

Gilbert John Mendonca was born in Bhayandar, an area in Maharashtra, India. The family he was raised in was Christian and he came from an entrepreneurial background. He joined politics in 1978 and was elected to the position of sarpanch in Mira-Bhayandar. He was elected as president of Mira-Bhayandar in 1990 , and became a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly (MLA) on an Nationalist Congress Party ticket in 2009, as a representative of Mira Bhayandar (Vidhan Sabha constituency). Mendonca took part in the elections against Narendra Mehta, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Chandrakant Vaita from the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena party. Out of the 147,584 votes that were cast, Mendonca got 62,013. Mehta got 51,407 votes, and Vaiti got 27,220 votes. The margin for Mendonca’s victory is 10,606. Mendonca’s victory was made possible by the citizens of Uttan who protested the relocation of a dump ground in their town by refusing to let anyone to run for office in Uttan with the exception of Mendonca who believed that Uttan to be his “stronghold”.

In July 2016, Mendonca was arrested for allegedly participating in a land grabbing case. The land was said to be worth hundreds of crores and a case of alleged cheating and land-grabbing was registered against him and four others.
