Gert Steegmans (born 30 September 1980 in Hasselt) is a Belgian former professional road bike racer, who was last with the UCI’s ProTeam Trek- Segafredo. He was renowned for his fast finishing sprint and was able to be a sprinter with his fellow Belgian cyclist Tom Boonen, his teammate.
Steegmans became the talk of the town in the days prior to his participation in the Tour de France with his refusal to sign an anti-doping contract that Team Katusha was trying to make all its riders sign. The agreement required those who test positive for a doping drug to pay the fine of up to five times his annual income. Steegmans continued to refuse even after an ultimatum was handed to the team that led to his being unable to be selected to Katusha’s Tour de France squad. Katusha and Steegmans disbanded his contract on August 5 in the wake of Steegmans insistence on refusing of signing the anti-doping agreement. RadioShack announced that Team RadioShack confirmed that the athlete was joining the team in 2010, beginning by participating in his Tour Down Under in late January.
Steegmans is married to former runway model and Tour de France podium girl Laura Leturgie, and they have one child, daughter Maélya (born on 6 June 2011).
In December 2014 Steegmans was announced as a member of Trek–Segafredo for the 2015 season. After struggling with injuries, he announced his immediate retirement in July 2015.
On the 6th of July, 2008, it was revealed that Steegmans signed a contract for two years in partnership with Tinkoff Credit Systems. As part of the Tour de France, he took home the prestigious stage in Champs-Elysees. Team Tinkoff later folded under this name, and then the ridership and management re-emerged under the name Team Katusha.

The 2nd stage in the Tour de France, a Liquigas rider slipped and fell during the final 3 kilometers which caused other riders to slide. A total of 20 riders fell and blocked the entire road the remaining riders had to race for victory, which was eventually won by Steegmans in his country of birth ahead of his fellow countryman along with teammate Tom Boronen who claimed the green jersey after coming second on the stage.
On 7 March 2010, during the time-trial for the Paris–Nice race, he was injured in a whirlwind accident, breaking a collarbone.
