Gerry McMahon is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on December 29, 1973 in Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. Gerard “Gerry” McMahon (born 29 December 1973) is a Northern Irish former footballer who played for Glenavon, Tottenham Hotspur, Barnet, Stoke City and is currently the director at Lurgan Celtic.
However, McMahon found himself out of the first team after the departure of a manager as did Paul Sturrock leaving McDiarmid Park in the year following, and at the end of the season of 2000 after his contract was due to expire, McMahon was allowed to depart. After a few trials in Notts County and Macclesfield, McMahon returned to Glenavon in August 2000 initially under a temporary contract and then after a few months Colin Malone convinced him to sign a long-term contract. This proved to be a successful move, as Glenavon’s Lurgan Blues finished as IFA Premier League runners-up. McMahon was elected captain of the club for the season 2001-02, and almost earned an unexpected international recall after Sammy McIlroy came to watch the team during the UEFA Cup tie against Kilmarnock. The incident occurred in December of 2002 during an at-home game against Glentoran an attack against McMahon resulted in both bones in his leg becoming broken. He needed three operations and was declared out of the game for two years.
On 6 April 2019, following a goalkeeper injury crisis, McMahon briefly came out of retirement to play in nets for Lurgan Celtic, in a 3-0 away defeat to Banbridge Town.
McMahon had his chances in the first team in the first team at White Hart Lane limited, and in September of 1996, McMahon resigned from a division to pursue his career. McMahon joined Stoke City for a fee of $450,000. He was an integral part of the team with Lou Macari in 1996-97 playing in 40 games, scoring three goals. He scored twice against Portsmouth and the first goal in a 2-1 win against West Bromwich Albion on the last match of the campaign, which was the final league game in the Victoria Ground. Macari quit Stoke at the end of the 1997 summer, and it was replaced by Chic Bates. McMahon played in 20 games for Stoke in 1997-98 . However, with the team in turmoil, Bates was fired in January 1998. Then the team came Chris Kamara and sold McMahon to St Johnstone in February 1998, St Johnstone for PS85,000.

McMahon started his career at Glenavon when he was just 14 years old, and only made it into the first squad in the second portion of the 1991-92 campaign and made the Irish League debut against Newry in February 1992. McMahon was a regular as a player for the remainder of the season. that was the performance he put in during the 4-1 Irish Cup sixth-round replay win against Glentoran that led to scouts from the biggest clubs in England interested in McMahon at the beginning of March, a move was in the works to Tottenham Hotspur. Glenavon easily made it to the final of Irish Cup, and, during his final game prior to his move for White Hart Lane, McMahon won a free-kick to beat Linfield with a 2-1 victory.
After moving to London the following year, it took him some time to settle down, especially after the demise of Terry Venables and the arrival of Ossie Ardiles. McMahon did not give up and eventually was rewarded when his long- awaited debut in the first team came at the close of 1994/95. McMahon’s Spurs debut was in May 1995. He was an integral part of the first-team squad for the next season, but without ever really making it into the first eleven. McMahon scored his first goal and what would turn out to be his only goal for Spurs in the match against Osters IF in their 1995 UEFA Intertoto Cup campaign. In May 1995 , he was awarded the first of his 17 caps, when he played for Northern Ireland against Canada in Edmonton.
McMahon has since returned to fitness, helping Glenavon, who were relegated at the end of the 2003–04 campaign, regain their Premier League position as play- off winners in 2005, and subsequently consolidate their top-flight position the following season. On 25 July 2009, Glenavon hosted St Johnstone for McMahon’s testimonial match, nine years after he left the Saints. He retired from playing in 2012 and became Glenavon’s reserve team manager before leaving to become assistant manager at Loughgall.
